CHAMPIONSHIPS INFORMATION

 

The 33rd National Tenpin Bowling Championships 2024 (NTBC-2024) will be held at Amoeba, Church Street, Bangalore, from 23rd Nov to 30th Nov 2024. The format, entry fee, rules and contact information are provided in the sections below.

 

FORMAT

 

  1. 1.FORMAT - Men’s Division:

 

1.1           Round I:

1.1.1         All bowlers will play 2 blocks of 6 games each.

1.1.2         First block of 6 games will be played on Long Oil (Dead Man's Curve V2 - 43 ft)

1.1.3         Second block of 6 games will be played on Medium Oil (Mercury 4940 – 40 ft)

1.1.4         Top 40 bowlers based on total pinfall of 12 games will qualify for Round II

 

1.2           Round II:

1.2.1         Top 40 bowlers who qualified for Round II will play 2 blocks of 6 games each.

1.2.2         First block of 6 games will be played on Long Oil (Dead Man's Curve V2 - 43 ft)

1.2.3         Second block of 6 games will be played on Medium Oil (Mercury 4940 – 40 ft)

1.2.4         Top 16 bowlers based on total pinfall of 24 games from Round I & Round II will qualify for Round III.

 

1.3           Round III:

1.3.1         Top 16 bowlers who qualified for Round III will play 2 blocks of 4 games each.

1.3.2         First block of 4 games will be played on Long Oil (Dead Man's Curve V2 - 43 ft)

1.3.3         Second block of 4 games will be played on Medium Oil (Mercury 4940 – 40 ft)

1.3.4         Top 4 bowlers based on total pinfall of 32 games from Round I, Round II & Round III will qualify for Stepladder round.

 

1.4           Stepladder Round (Knockout):

 

Match 1:        Rank 4 Vs. Rank 3

Match 2:         Winner of Match 1 Vs. Rank 2

Finals:             Winner of Match 2 Vs. Rank 1

 

  • The order of Play of Game1 of every Match and the Lane Conditioning pattern will be chosen by the Higher Ranked Bowler
    • Winner of each Match will be decided based on cumulative pinfall of 2 games.

3.1.4         Top 12 bowlers based on total pinfall of 12 games will qualify for Round II.

 

3.2           Round II:

 

3.2.1         Top 12 bowlers who qualified for Round II will play 2 blocks of 4 games each.

3.2.2         First block of 4 games will be played on Long Oil (Dead Man's Curve V2 - 43 ft)

3.2.3         Second block of 4 games will be played on Medium Oil (Mercury 4940 – 40 ft)

3.2.4         Top 4 bowlers will be based on total pinfall of 20 games from Round 1 & Round II will qualify for Stepladder round.

 

3.3           Stepladder Round:

 

Match 1:        Rank 4 Vs. Rank 3

Match 2:         Winner of Match 1 Vs. Rank 2

Finals:             Winner of Match 2 Vs. Rank 1

 

  • The order of Play of Game1 of every Match and the Lane Conditioning pattern will be chosen by the Higher Ranked Bowler

5.1               All Permanent and Provisional Member Associations shall submit the Forms mentioned below and final list of entry by name of registered Bowlers who are qualified through Direct entries, State ranking Events/trial, Overseas trials, Centralized Qualifying Trial and Wild Card on or before the dates mentioned below by sending an Email to This email address is being protected from spambots. 5.2               ENTRY FEES

 

  • Rs.4000 per bowler.
  1. 6. Lane conditioning

 

6.1.1         Oiling patterns:

  1. i.Long Oil:Dead Man's Curve V2 - 43 ft
  2. ii.Medium Oil:Mercury 4940 – 40 ft

6.1.2         Lane maintenance will be done before the start of every Squad.

 7.PLAYING RULES:

 

7.1               Bowling Balls

 

7.1.1         Markings

 

7.1.1.1                Any Bowling ball used in this tournament must have the product name as well as the manufacturer's name and ball serial number clearly visible at all times for identification purposes.

7.1.1.2                Every athlete is allowed to register a maximum of six 6 bowling balls and 1 reserve Bowling Ball for use in the championship. No substitution is allowed during the event except in exceptional circumstances as determined by the Tournament Technical Committee.

 

7.1.2         Balance Hole:

 

7.1.2.1                Ball with a Balance Hole is not allowed to be used.

7.1.2.2                A Bowler should use all the holes drilled on the ball, fingers and thumb hole while delivering the ball

7.1.2.3                Any hole that is not used for gripping purposes during the delivery would be classified as a balance hole.

7.1.2.4                A two-handed bowler is required to use the same dominant hand during their delivery on both their first and second shots (this refers to the hand in which the bowling ball rests). All drilled holes must be used in every delivery. If the ball has a thumb hole drilled it must be used in every delivery.

 

7.1.3         Surfacing of ball

 

7.1.3.1                Bowling ball surfaces adjustments by hand are acceptable between games, provided they are done in the designated areas and the adjustment should not delay the Bowler next shot.

7.1.3.2                No liquid can be used on the ball to surface or change the surface after the start of games.

7.1.3.3                Altering the surface of the bowling ball during a game is not allowed. If the surface is adjusted during a game the penalty is zero pinfall in that game.

 

7.2               Approaches must not be defaced.

 

The application of any foreign substance on any part of the approach that detracts from the possibility of other player having normal conditions is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, such substances as talcum powder, pumice and resin on shoes; also soft rubber soles or heels that rub off on the approach are prohibited.

 

7.3               Delivery

7.3.1         Once the bowler has taken his first shot, he shall continue to use that hand throughout the tournament unless, due to injury, the bowler finds it impossible to continue bowling with the same hand. The bowler may seek approval of the tournament director to continue with the opposite hand.

 

  1. 1.First offense: Warning
  2. 2.Second Offense: The shot will count as a foul, nulling any pins knocked down in that shot.
  3. 3.Third and continued offense: The pin count of the whole frame where the offense occurred will be nulled

7.4               Dead Ball

 

7.4.1         A ball shall be declared dead if any of the following occur:

 

7.4.1.1                After a delivery (and before the next delivery on the same lane), attention is immediately called to the fact that one or more pins were missing from the pin deck.

7.4.1.2                A pinsetter removes or interferes with any downed pins before it stops rolling.

7.4.1.3                A player bowls on the wrong lane

7.4.1.4                A player is physically interfered with by another player, spectator or by pinsetter as the ball is being delivered and before delivery is in such case, the player has the option to accept the pin fall or have a dead ball declared.

7.4.1.5                Any pin is moved or knocked down as the player delivers the ball but before the ball reaches pins.

7.4.1.6                A delivered ball comes in contact with a foreign object on the lane.

 

7.5               Legal pin fall

 

7.5.1         A legal delivery is made when the ball leaves the player's possession and crosses the foul line into playing territory.

7.5.2         Every delivery counts unless a dead ball is called.

7.5.3         A delivery must be made entirely by manual means.

7.5.4         No device may be incorporated in or affixed to the ball that detaches on delivery or is a moving part during delivery.

7.5.5         A player may use special equipment to aid in grasping and delivering the ball if it is in place of a hand or major portion thereof lost by amputation

7.5.6         Pins following a legal delivery - to be credited to a player, to be termed dead wood and to be removed before the next delivery shall include:

  1. i)Pins knocked down or off the pin deck by the ball or another pin
  2. ii)Pins knocked down or off the pin deck by a pin rebounding from a side partition or rear cushion
  3. iii)Pins knocked down or off the pin deck by a pin rebounding from the sweep bar when it is at rest on the pin deck before sweeping dead wood from the pin deck
  4. iv)Pins that lean and touch the kickback or side partition

 

7.6               Illegal pin fall

 

7.6.1         When any of the following occur the delivery counts but the resulting pin fall does not:

i) A ball leaves the lane before reaching the pins

ii) ball rebounds from the rear cushion

iii)A pin rebounds after coming in contact with the body, arms or legs of a     human pinsetter

iv)A pin is touched by mechanical pin setting equipment

v)Any pin knocked down when dead wood is being removed

vi)Any pin knocked down by a human pinsetter

vii)The player commits a foul

 

 

7.7               Other pin actions

 

7.7.1         When bowling at a full setup or to make a spare, if it is discovered immediately after the delivery that one or more pins are set improperly, but not missing, the delivery and resulting pin fall counts. It is each player’s responsibility to determine if a setup is correct. The player shall insist that any pin or pins incorrectly set be re-spotted before delivering the ball, otherwise the setup is deemed to be acceptable.

7.7.2         No change can be made in the position of any pins left standing after a delivery. That is, pins that are moved or misplaced by a mechanical pinsetter shall remain in the moved or misplaced position and shall not be corrected manually.

7.7.3         Pins that rebound and stand on the lane must be counted as standing pins.

7.7.4         No pins may be conceded and only those actually knocked down or moved entirely off the playing surface of the lane as a result of a legal delivery may be counted.

 

7.8               Re-racks

 

7.8.1         First Shot

The number of re-racks is limited to 2 per player per in a game

7.8.2         Second Shot

No Re-rack will be permitted.

7.9               Slow Bowling

 

7.9.1         Bowlers shall be ready to bowl when it is their turn and shall not delay the start of their approach or delivery when the pairs immediately adjacent to them on both the right and left are clear (one (1) pair lane courtesy. Competitors must observe one (1) pair lane courtesy at all times.

7.9.2         Competitors on the same pair may not bowl consecutive deliveries without allowing one (1) competitor from the pair to the right and one (1) competitor from the pair to the left have made a delivery, unless those competitors are not ready to bowl or they give way.

 

7.10           Shot Clock

 

7.10.1      The following time rules apply and will be strictly enforced during the entire event.

7.10.1.1            First shot in a frame. When your opponent leaves the approach and you have a full set of pins, you have 30 seconds to complete your shot. The shot is deemed complete in shot clock terms when the ball is fully released and has passed the foul line.

7.10.1.2            Second shot in a frame. After your first ball has returned to the ball return, you have 30 seconds to complete your shot. The shot is deemed complete in shot clock terms when the ball is fully released and has passed the foul line.

  1. 1) First offense: Warning
    1. 2) Second Offense: The shot will count as a foul, nulling any pins knocked down in that shot.

3)            Third and continued offense: The pin count of the whole frame where the offense occurred will be nulled.

 

7.11           Foul definitions

7.11.1      A foul occurs when a part of the player's person encroaches on or goes beyond the foul line and touches any part of the lane, equipment or building during or after a delivery.

7.11.2      A ball is in play after a delivery until the same or another player is on the approach in position to make a succeeding delivery.

7.11.3      When a player deliberately fouls to benefit by the calling of a foul, the player shall be credited with zero pin fall for that delivery and not allowed further deliveries in that frame.

7.11.4      When a foul recorded the delivery counts but the player is not credited with any pins knocked down by that delivery, Pins knocked down by the ball when the foul occurred must be re-spotted if the player who fouled is entitled to additional deliveries in the frame.

7.11.5      A foul shall be declared and recorded if the automatic foul detecting device or foul judge fails to call a foul that is apparent to:

  1. a.The official scorekeepers
  2. b.A tournament Official

 

7.12           Scoring- Errors

 

7.12.1      Errors in scoring or errors in calculation during Match play must be corrected by a responsible tournament official immediately upon the discovery of such error, brought to his notice by the player or players on the lane or Team Official before the start of next frame.

7.12.2      Questionable errors shall be decided upon by the Championships Committee. The time limit for pointing out scoring errors shall be one (1) hour from the end of the block of games in which Bowler was playing each day in the Championship but must be before the commencement of the next round (in an elimination event) or the prize presentation whichever is sooner. Each reference under this rule must be specific in itself, shall be submitted by the Team Official and this rule shall not be construed to cover a previous or similar violation.

 

7.13           Style of play:

 

7.13.1     Dual lane style:

7.13.1.1            A game shall be played on two lanes (a pair) immediately adjoining each

7.13.1.2            Individual entrants shall successively and in regular order bowl one frame on one lane, and for the next frame alternate and use the other lane until five frames are bowled on each lane of the pair

7.13.2     Match play style:

7.13.2.1            In the match play style each athlete bowls two frames at a time.

7.13.2.2            However, the athlete starting on the left (odd numbered) lane bowls one frame

7.13.2.3            Thereafter both athletes bowl first on the right lane, then immediately bowl another frame on the left

7.13.2.4            The athlete who bowled first will finish his game by bowling the tenth frame on the right

7.13.2.5            When match play consists of more than one game, in succeeding games athletes alternate in starting on the left

7.14           Late to the Championships

 

When a bowler arrives after the start of the Squad, he loses the number of games or frames that have been completed by the bowlers in his lane.

Ex: If a bowler arrives after his allocated co-bowler has completed 1 game and 5 frames in the second game, he will start bowling from the 5th frame of that game.

 

 

7.15           Interrupted Games

The Tournament Director may authorize the competition of a game and/or series on another pair of lanes when equipment failure on the starting lanes would delay the normal progress of the series. An interrupted game and/or series which cannot be completed on the same date must resume from the point of interruption on the next day.

 

 

7.16           Tie breaking rules

 

7.16.1      Tie for all ranking positions will be decided based on the highest score in the last game of the last block. In case there is a tie in the last game score, the previous game score will be considered to break the tie and this will go on till the tie is broken.

 

7.16.2      Stepladder Round Match: In case of a Tie one ball roll-off till the tie is broken.

 

7.17           Dress Code

 

7.17.1      All participants shall wear their respective State uniforms or Championships Uniform.

7.17.2       

7.17.2.1            Upper Wear               : T shirts with Collar

7.17.2.2            Bottom Wear

  • Men: Trousers or track Pants.
  • Women: Trousers/ trackPants/ Shorts/ Sports Skirts

7.17.3      Participants are not allowed to wear Sunglasses and caps during course of play.

 

7.18           Conduct

 

7.18.1      All bowlers should strive to conduct themselves in a mature and sportsmanlike manner.

7.18.2      Kicking ball returns, chairs, etc. and loud profanity will not be tolerated. A member consistently displaying this type of unsportsmanlike behavior will be given a code of ethics violation.

  1. oFirst offence: Warning
  2. oSecond Offence:The shot will be marked Zero nulling any pins knocked in that shot
    1. oThird Offence: The pin count of the whole frame where the offense occurred will

 

  1. 8.Resolving disputes

 

8.1               In case of any disputes, the Tournament Director will resolve the disputes and his decision shall be final.

 

 

  1. 9.General

 

9.1               The Rules other than specifically mentioned in the Playing Rules section will be in accordance with IBF Playing Rules.

 

9.2               Ban on Smoking, Vaping, Use of Tobacco in any form and Alcohol

9.2.1         Smoking, Vaping, use of Tobacco in any form and Consumption of Alcohol at the venue of Championships (Bowling Center premises) is strictly prohibited.

9.2.2         All participants/ Team Officials shall not be found Smoking or Vaping or Consuming Alcohol while wearing State Uniforms or Championship Uniforms outside the Bowling center or in any Public Place.

Penalties:

First offence                         :               Warning

Second Offence                   :               Fine of Rs.5000

Third Offence                       :               Will be disqualified from the Championship.

 

 

9.3               The Federation reserves the right to grant extensions to the deadlines, amend the schedule, add or reduce number of lanes per squad if required.
